The Yellow Wallpaper

I think that the wallpaper the narrorator speaks of is symbolic of herself. On the outside she appears torn down and worn out by her disease, which would be called post partum depression in modern times. She is not very pleasant to be around and neither is the wallpaper so she says that "the color is repellant, almost revolting; a smoudlering unclean yellow" (370). She feels imprisoned by the room as the woman behind the wallpaper is imprisioned by the wallpaper.
